Fishing the Blackfoot River - Missoula

b>The Blackfoot River runs through Missoula and was featured in the book and movie, A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean. The third Saturday in May marks the opening of the “general” fishing season in Montana. This means fishing season opens on small streams and lakes that were closed to winter fishing. It also means that waters that have been open for “catch-and-release” now allow taking of a daily limit for various species.

Polson’s Miracle of America Museum sits right alongside U.S. Highway 93, just 3/4 of a mile south of Flathead Lake. The museum houses a collection of over 100,000 bits and pieces and treasures from America’s history, with much of it dating from just the past 100 years.

Elk Country Visitor Center Missoula

The primary focus of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is Elk, of course, and the Visitor Center features an amazing display of mounted elk, many with antlers that are world records. The Elk Foundation considers loss of habitat to be the most serious threat to the future of wild places and wildlife. The Foundation now counts 150,000 members, with 550 chapters in the USA and 10,000 volunteer workers who assist with conservation, education, and preservation projects around the country.
